Captain Jacks

On Saturday night Jon's friend Chris came in from NY. After they caught up at the house we made our way down the PCH to Sunset Beach to visit Captain Jacks. This is an establishment that I have wanted to visit for a long time. Every time I drive by it I want to stop because it looks so fascinating from the outside. When we were in Palm Springs a few weeks ago and I was shopping up a storm Jon was looking at books to pass time and picked up a surfing book that told the history 0f Captain Jacks. A surfer started it in 1965 its known for its seafood and prime rib (yum). So FINALLY we got to check it out. The atmosphere was more than I could have imagined.. it was like being on a boat or a hunting room stuffed fish and boating garb everywhere, you could barely read the menus because the red light was so dim.. the greatest ambiance. The service was phenomenal total teamwork. After the first waitress took our drink orders, the second waiter dropped the menu and told us the best sellers and said they were the highest sellers of Alaskan King crab legs selling 1500 lbs of king crab a week. (**We all thought this was a little crazy, did we hear him wrong? Maybe the best sellers on the west coast?**). So I ordered the King crab legs (I never get the chance because of Jon's allergies), Jon ordered prime rib (He kept telling me I could sample it and get the best of both worlds), and Chris had shellfish-fest with Shrimp Scampi and a half order of King Crab legs. Then came the bread (they are famous for their pumpernickel) which was heaven sent. Shortly after the bread we each get our starter salads (they are known for their bleu cheese) this I am 50/50 on it wasn't bad but after the bread I expected the world... Then they clear our plates and within moments our entrees arrive. I will let the pictures speak for themselves... Never in my life I have I seen so much meat (Jon's prime rib) usually the cuts are pretty reasonable but this was a cut for four! I also now know how they are able to serve 1500 lbs of king crab a week as at least 15 lbs (if not more) was placed in front of me... I have never had so many legs in one sitting.. or even one evening! I was inclined to eat every last bite as this was a major treat! I took the before pics but was too full for the after... We were full but still had an amazing dessert chocolate truffle covered raspberry sorbet. Now I am not a big fan of chocolate and any type of fruit but again heaven sent this down to our table. It was sooo good!
We had a fantastic evening. I seriously cannot wait to bring my parents and my brothers back... It is right up their alleys!
