Salvation Mountain

Jon had read about Leonard Knight in Niland, California and his Salvation Mountain. We arrived and got a tour from the man himself. Salvation Mountain is Leonard's tribute to God. He has been working on it for over 29 years. The first 17 years he was completely alone before people started coming to visit. Now about a thousand people visit each week. The mountain is made adobe style with hay and clay and he has painted huge flowers, water, trees, crosses, you name it. You follow the yellow brick road up the mountain to the top. It was incredible to see and to actually meet him one of the last great 'American Folk Artists'.
